Family Heritage

The Abdelnasser family traces its lineage to Abdelnasser Hussein Khalil Sultan Al Marri Al Tamimi, with the family’s origins attributed to the Adnanite Bani Tamim tribe of Najd, whose lineage is traditionally traced to Prophet Ismail, son of Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon them.

The family’s ancestors settled in Upper Egypt and married from the indigenous women of the land, specifically in the village of Beni Mur, where they held a notable social standing and local presence. Several members of the family served as village and community sheikhs or influential community leaders across successive generations. This position continued through Sheikh Hussein Khalil, the father of Abdelnasser Hussein Effendi the family patriarch, who was known as the village sheikh of Beni Mur during the late nineteenth century. He also owned ten feddans of agricultural land, which he personally supervised and managed in cooperation with farmers.

The family is also connected by marriage to the Etman family, known for being Al-Azhar Muslim Sheikhs, as Sheikh Hussein Khalil married one of its daughters, who became the mother of Abdelnasser Effendi and his siblings.

On the maternal side, the Abdelnasser sisters’ grandmother was Enayat Hanem Al-Sahn, daughter of Mustafa Bey Al-Sahn, who held a government position and belonged to the distinguished Al-Sahn family. Her mother was Amina Hanem Ghorab, of the Hijazi Ghorab family, which traces its lineage to Al-Hussain grandson of Prophet Mohamed Peace be Upon Him, or Husseini Sharifs and is associated with the historical governance of Sfax from approximately the sixteenth to the nineteenth century.

Their maternal grandfather was Ahmed Bey Al-Turki, of the Al-Turki family, several members of which held distinguished government positions across generations. The sisters' maternal grandmother, belonged to the Shaheen family, whose origins are from Hijazi Bani Salim tribe, a family historically known for its involvement in commerce.

This family heritage represents a diverse legacy encompassing Arab roots, local leadership, public service, scholarship, commerce, and community engagement, a heritage that the present generation is committed to documenting, preserving, and carrying forward for future generations.

The Sisters

The Abdelnasser sisters, Ms. Yomna Abdelnaser and Ms. Engy Abdelnasser are the 2 youngest members of the Abdelnasser family's 2nd generation and are the official representatives of the family for the upcoming generation.
Ms. Yomna graduated in 2018 from the American University in Cairo, with a double major bachelor's degree in Political Science (Specialization of International Relations) and Communications and Media Arts. She has worked in Egypt's presidential office and UAE's government, United Nations, and in personal investments. She's served as 2025 NENA Youth representative for United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization's World Food Forum and is currently appointed as the Founding Director and Strategic Senior Advisor for UN's GirlUp branch in Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Engy Abdelnasser graduated in 2020 from from the American University in Cairo, with a double major bachelor's degree in Political Science (Specialization of International Relations) and Communications and Media Arts. She has earned a master's degree in Refugee Protection and Forced Migration Studies from the University of London in 2022. She has worked in United Nations, the American University in Cairo. Also, she's worked as a Political Economy Lecturer in University of London's branch in Cairo, Egypt. She currently serves as Strategic Advisor for UN's GirlUp branch in Abu Dhabi.
They both have founded Abdelnasser Philanthropies to advance social-good around the world.
